Innovating & Scaling Responsibly at World Food Day 2026

How can we make responsibility part of innovation, from design through to scale?

On 20 October, World Food Day 2026 brings together policymakers, businesses, civil society organisations and knowledge institutions at the Fokker Terminal in The Hague. This year’s theme, Partnerships that Feed the Future, focuses on collaboration for more sustainable, resilient and equitable food systems.

As part of the programme, the interactive session Innovating & Scaling Responsibly will explore what responsible innovation means in practice. Drawing on cases from TU Delft, the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) and CGIAR/AICCRA, the session looks at key questions around equity, ownership, local relevance and unintended consequences.

Participants will be invited to connect these questions to their own work and exchange practical approaches for developing and scaling innovations responsibly.

Among the speakers is Oane Visser, Associate Professor of Agrarian Studies at ISS and member of the ICFI network. His research focuses on digital technologies in agriculture and development, land and large-scale farming, and the role of smallholders, alternative food networks and rural movements.

He will be joined by:

Marc Schut
Senior Innovation Portfolio Management Advisor, CGIAR

Mar Palmeros Parada
Assistant Professor, Water Management, TU Delft

The session brings together perspectives from CGIAR, TU Delft, KIT Institute, Wageningen University & Research and ISS.
